General Tire, a brand owned by Continental, has unveiled the new Grabber AT3 Plus, a next-generation all-terrain tyre designed to deliver stronger year-round performance for 4x4s, SUVs and adventure-focused drivers. The latest addition to the Grabber family builds on the reputation of the existing AT3 while introducing improvements in snow traction, wet grip and off-road durability.

The launch reflects growing global demand for versatile all-terrain tyres capable of handling daily road use while remaining ready for weekend touring, towing and off-road exploration.

Given the Grabber’s strong heritage in Australia, don’t be surprised to see the AT3 Plus reach local shores sooner rather than later.

Designed for Modern SUV and 4×4 Owners

According to General Tire, the Grabber AT3 Plus has been engineered to provide balanced performance across a wide variety of driving conditions. The tyre carries the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) symbol across all available sizes, certifying its suitability for winter conditions in regions where snow-rated tyres are required.

While the 3PMSF certification is not a legal requirement in Australia, it remains highly relevant for motorists travelling to alpine regions during winter. Unlike standard all-terrain tyres, a 3PMSF-rated tyre has been independently tested and certified for severe snow service, demonstrating measurable improvements in snow traction and braking performance.

For Australian 4WD and SUV owners who regularly visit the Victorian Alps, Snowy Mountains or Tasmania’s high country, the certification provides additional confidence when driving on snow-covered or icy roads and aligns the Grabber AT3 Plus with a growing number of premium all-terrain tyres designed for genuine four-season capability.

The range launches with fitments covering 15-inch through 22-inch wheel diameters, widths from 195mm to 315mm and aspect ratios ranging from 40 to 80 series. Selected sizes will also be available in LT specification for heavier-duty applications.

Three Core Technologies Underpin the New Tyre

General Tire has incorporated three of its established all-terrain technologies into the Grabber AT3 Plus platform.

Large tread blocks and multiple biting edges are designed to enhance traction on loose surfaces while maintaining predictable handling and steering response on sealed roads.

Specially developed compounds and tread design elements aim to reduce road noise and improve ride comfort during extended highway driving.

A cut and chip resistant tread compound, reinforced tread blocks and integrated stone bumpers are designed to improve durability in demanding off-road conditions.

Balanced Appearance & Performance

Alongside the performance upgrades, the Grabber AT3 Plus adopts a more rugged visual design. A pronounced shoulder profile, prominent sidewall detailing and visible technology branding give the tyre a more purposeful off-road appearance suited to modern SUVs and dual-cab utes.

The all-terrain segment continues to be one of the fastest-growing areas of the tyre market globally, driven by the popularity of dual-cab utes, large SUVs and overlanding-style recreational travel.

Long-time Australian 4WD enthusiasts may recognise the Grabber name from General Tire’s earlier expansion into the local market. When the original Grabber all-terrain range arrived in Australia, it quickly developed a following among SUV and 4WD owners looking for a tyre that could balance everyday road manners with genuine off-road capability.

While many traditional A/T tyres have historically prioritised off-road durability over wet-weather and winter performance, manufacturers are increasingly focusing on creating tyres that can genuinely serve as year-round solutions. The addition of the 3PMSF snow rating is particularly noteworthy, bringing the Grabber AT3 Plus into line with competitors such as the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO3, Yokohama Geolandar GO18 and Falken Wildpeak A/T4W.

For Australian motorists, the improved wet-weather performance may prove more relevant than the winter certification. As consumers increasingly expect a single tyre to perform across commuting, touring, towing and off-road duties, tyres such as the Grabber AT3 Plus are becoming a critical battleground for tyre manufacturers looking to capture market share in the lucrative 4WD segment.

Whether General Tire Australia introduces the Grabber AT3 Plus locally remains to be seen, but given the popularity of the outgoing Grabber AT3 among touring and recreational four-wheel-drive enthusiasts, the new model would appear a logical addition to the Australian range.
