Goodyear Autocare is one of Australia’s largest tyre and automotive service networks, but its structure has changed significantly following Goodyear’s major restructuring of its Australian operations.
TreadTorque’s analysis of the current Goodyear Autocare store data identifies 191 locations across every Australian state and territory. Goodyear itself currently describes the network as having more than 190 stores nationally.
Unlike the former Beaurepaires network, Goodyear Autocare is primarily built around independently owned licensed businesses. Store owners retain ownership and control of their businesses while operating under the Goodyear Autocare identity and gaining access to Goodyear branding, products, preferred suppliers and marketing support.
That distinction has become considerably more important since 2024.
Goodyear exited its company-owned Australian retail model, closed the Beaurepaires network and shifted Goodyear tyre distribution to Tyremax.
Some former Beaurepaires locations were subsequently converted to Goodyear Autocare, effectively moving stores from Goodyear’s company-owned retail network into its independently operated branded dealer network.
The result is a very different Australian Goodyear business from the one that existed only a few years ago.
More Than 110 Years of Goodyear in Australia
Goodyear traces its Australian presence to 1915, when it established its first distribution company in Sydney.
The company subsequently established a Melbourne office and developed distribution networks across Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and New Zealand.
Its branded independent retail strategy came much later.
Goodyear says it introduced a franchised retail model in Australia in 1989, providing multi-brand tyre and automotive services through independently operated businesses.
That model evolved into Goodyear Autocare in 2006, with the network positioned as a one-stop destination combining tyre retailing with broader automotive servicing.
This broader servicing proposition remains central to the network today.
Goodyear Autocare Is an Independently Operated Network
Goodyear’s current terminology describes Goodyear Autocare as a licence program, rather than simply calling every operator a franchisee.
Goodyear tells prospective operators:
“Your store belongs to you.”
The store operator holds the business and maintains control over how it is run, while Goodyear provides the brand, signage, product access, preferred supplier arrangements and local marketing support.
That means Goodyear Autocare is fundamentally different from the old Beaurepaires structure.
Beaurepaires was predominantly a company-owned retail operation controlled by Goodyear.
Goodyear Autocare is predominantly a network of independently owned businesses operating under licence from Goodyear.
For consumers, the national branding may make the stores appear relatively uniform, but the underlying businesses are locally owned.
The Goodyear Autocare Network Today
A 2026 analysis of the current Goodyear Autocare store data identifies 191 locations nationally.
| State/Territory | Stores |
|---|---|
| Victoria | 52 |
| New South Wales | 51 |
| Queensland | 40 |
| South Australia | 21 |
| Western Australia | 15 |
| Tasmania | 7 |
| Northern Territory | 3 |
| ACT | 2 |
| Australia | 191 |
The network is particularly strong across the eastern states.
Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland account for 143 of the 191 locations, or almost three-quarters of the current network.
The geographical spread nevertheless extends across every state and territory, giving Goodyear Autocare a genuine national footprint.
The 191 locations identified by TreadTorque also align closely with Goodyear’s current recruitment material, which describes a “growing network of over 190 stores nationally.”
The Closure of Beaurepaires Changed Goodyear’s Australian Business
The most important recent development in understanding Goodyear Autocare is what happened to Beaurepaires.
Beaurepaires had been one of Australia’s most recognisable tyre retailers for more than a century.
By 2022, Goodyear & Dunlop Tyres Australia described the Beaurepaires operation as a network of approximately 250 stores, while Goodyear’s subsequent corporate reporting showed the network had been reduced to around 100 company-operated locations by 2023.
In September 2023, Goodyear announced a major rationalisation of its Australian and New Zealand operations.
The plan involved moving away from company-owned retailing towards a third-party distribution and retail sales model. Contemporary reporting said the restructuring involved selling or exiting approximately 100 retail and fleet locations, closing nine warehouses and potentially affecting around 700 jobs.
Beaurepaires sat at the centre of that change.
Goodyear has since confirmed that its final Beaurepaires store closed on 30 September 2024.
It brought to an end one of the oldest names in Australian tyre retailing.
Some Beaurepaires Stores Became Goodyear Autocare
Not every Beaurepaires location simply disappeared.
There is clear evidence that some former Beaurepaires sites were converted to Goodyear Autocare as Goodyear restructured the network.
Reporting during the Beaurepaires closure specifically identified locations being rebranded as Goodyear Autocare, while some others transitioned to Dunlop Super Dealer or were sold to other tyre retailers.
This fits the broader strategy.
Instead of Goodyear continuing to own and operate the retail location, a viable site could continue under the Goodyear Autocare banner through a licensed operator.
However, TreadTorque has not found a reliable national figure showing exactly how many Beaurepaires locations ultimately became Goodyear Autocare stores.
Goodyear Autocare already had a substantial independent network before the restructuring. The closure instead appears to have provided an opportunity to strengthen that network by converting selected former company-operated locations to the Autocare model.
What Happened to Goodyear’s Australian Head Office and Sales Operation?
Goodyear’s restructuring was broader than simply closing Beaurepaires.
Historically, Goodyear & Dunlop Tyres Australia operated a substantial Australian corporate organisation headquartered in Melbourne.
The 2023 restructuring fundamentally changed that model.
Goodyear moved away from operating its own large wholesale distribution and company-owned retail infrastructure. The Goodyear brand’s Australian wholesale distribution was transferred to Tyremax, while Dunlop distribution initially moved to National Tyre & Wheel before the Dunlop brand rights were sold to Sumitomo Rubber Industries.
Tyremax said its appointment as Australian and New Zealand distributor of Goodyear tyres was expected to commence around April 2024, covering passenger and commercial products through Tyremax’s warehouse and distribution network.
Goodyear’s own financial reporting subsequently described the restructuring as an exit from its retail operations in Australia and New Zealand.
From Direct Distribution to Tyremax
The appointment of Tyremax is one of the biggest changes behind the scenes.
Historically, Goodyear & Dunlop Tyres Australia imported and distributed Goodyear tyres itself.
Under the new structure, Tyremax became the Australian and New Zealand distributor for Goodyear tyres, using its existing wholesale warehouse and distribution infrastructure.
This effectively separates three functions that were previously much more closely integrated:
Goodyear owns the brand and supplies the product.
Tyremax handles Australian wholesale distribution.
Goodyear Autocare licensees independently own and operate the retail businesses.
It is a much more asset-light structure for Goodyear than owning warehouses, distribution infrastructure and Beaurepaires stores itself.
What Tyres Does Goodyear Autocare Sell?
Unsurprisingly, Goodyear is the core tyre brand, however with Tyremax distributing Goodyear tyres most stores would be multi-branded into most brands distributed by Tyremax, including Maxxis.
The current Goodyear Autocare website promotes Goodyear products across:
- Passenger vehicles
- SUVs
- 4WDs
- Performance vehicles
- Electric vehicles
- Vans
- Trucks and buses
But Goodyear Autocare shouldn’t automatically be interpreted as a Goodyear-only retailer.
The network originated as a multi-brand tyre and automotive service model, and independently owned operators can carry additional products according to their business and customer requirements. Goodyear itself describes the earlier franchised model as providing multi-brand tyre and auto services.
What About Dunlop?
Historically, Goodyear and Dunlop were closely linked in Australia.
That relationship has now changed.
On 7 May 2025, Goodyear completed the sale of the Dunlop brand rights to Sumitomo Rubber Industries.
Goodyear subsequently terminated its Dunlop distribution arrangements and the licences associated with the Dunlop Super Dealer network.
Dunlop now sits outside Goodyear’s Australian brand portfolio.
More Than Tyres
The word Autocare is important.
When the current format was launched in 2006, Goodyear positioned it as a one-stop tyre and automotive service network rather than simply a tyre dealer.
Depending on the individual location, services can include:
- Tyre fitting
- Puncture repairs
- Wheel balancing
- Wheel alignment
- Tyre rotation and health checks
- 55-point vehicle inspections
- Batteries
- Brakes
- Suspension
- Oil changes
- Logbook servicing
- Mechanical repairs
- Wheels
Services vary between stores.
Commercial and Fleet Capability
The Goodyear Autocare network also extends beyond passenger vehicles.
Goodyear’s current tyre range includes truck and bus products, and some locations are identified separately as Fleet Service Providers.
Commercial capability therefore varies significantly by location.
A suburban Goodyear Autocare may predominantly service passenger cars and SUVs, while another dealer may have workshop facilities and mobile capabilities designed around commercial customers.
Consumers and fleet operators should check the individual store’s listed capabilities rather than assuming every location provides the same services.
A Network That Became More Important After Beaurepaires
The Beaurepaires closure changes how Goodyear Autocare should be viewed within Goodyear’s Australian strategy.
Previously, Goodyear effectively had two different retail models operating alongside each other.
Beaurepaires provided a major company-owned retail network.
Goodyear Autocare provided an independently operated branded dealer network.
Once Beaurepaires disappeared, Goodyear Autocare became the company’s principal branded retail presence in Australia.
At the same time, Goodyear outsourced wholesale distribution to Tyremax.
That leaves Goodyear with a substantially different structure:
Global manufacturer → independent Australian distributor → independently owned Goodyear Autocare retailer.
For Goodyear, it retains a highly visible national retail identity without having to own and operate almost 200 workshops.
For the store owner, it provides the recognition of a global tyre brand while allowing ownership of the underlying business.
What to Know Before Visiting Goodyear Autocare
There are several important points consumers should understand about the current network.
The store is generally independently owned. Goodyear Autocare operates as a licensed dealer network, with store operators retaining ownership and control of their businesses.
The network is large. TreadTorque’s current store data identifies 191 locations, closely matching Goodyear’s own description of more than 190 stores nationally.
Goodyear Autocare survived the Beaurepaires restructuring because it uses a fundamentally different model. Goodyear exited company-owned retailing while continuing to support independently operated Autocare locations.
Some former Beaurepaires stores became Goodyear Autocare locations. Contemporary reporting and business registrations support this, although no reliable public national conversion count is available.
Goodyear tyres are now distributed by Tyremax in Australia. This is part of Goodyear’s move away from its previous direct distribution structure.
Dunlop is no longer owned by Goodyear in Australia. The Australian and New Zealand Dunlop rights transferred to Sumitomo Rubber Industries in May 2025.
Services differ between stores. The Autocare identity covers everything from tyre fitting to logbook servicing and mechanical repairs, but individual store capabilities vary.
